Medium-Bore Spherical Roller Bearings offer extended life.

Press Release Summary:

Available with steel or brass cages, Spherical Roller Bearings are suitable for casters, crushers, vibratory screens, and conveyors. Design utilizes cage pockets, rather than center guide ring, to guide rollers, eliminating friction point, which reduces operating temperature and running torque. By optimizing lube film, enhanced surface finishes avoid metal-to-metal contact. Models with hardened steel cages deliver fatigue strength, wear resistance, and protection against shock and acceleration.

Timken Expands Product Offering of High Performance Spherical Roller Bearings

Bearing Designed to Run Cooler, Longer

NORTH CANTON, Ohio, -- The Timken Company (NYSE: TKR; expects to prompt a spherical revolution with its recent introduction of medium bore high-performance Timken(®) spherical roller bearings, including new steel cage sizes.

"Customers have made spherical roller bearings an increasingly important element of our core product line. Now they can choose from an even greater selection of sizes featuring steel or brass cages," said Amanda Montgomery, product line vice president for Timken.

Spherical roller bearings are widely used in process industries in equipment ranging from continuous casters, crushers, vibratory screens, excavation loaders and conveyors. To help customers select Timken spherical roller bearings, Timken offers downloads of 2D drawings and 3D models for addition to presentations or insertion directly into a CAD system at  An interactive catalog with extensive product information and a comprehensive list of spherical roller bearings and accessories also are featured on the website.

Designed to Run Cooler, Longer

In designing the company's high-performance spherical roller bearing offering, Timken engineers added a number of special features that contribute to longer bearing life. Cage pockets, rather than a center guide ring, guide the bearing rollers, thus eliminating a friction point. Based on testing, this design reduces operating temperatures by 5C, on average, compared with competitor products.

Testing also showed that eliminating the center guide ring reduces running torque up to 4 percent. Without a guide ring, less friction is created, so less energy is needed to move the bearing and keep it moving, meaning improved efficiency. These features can contribute to longer bearing life, resulting in a product that is designed to:

--  Minimize Wear. Improved profiles designed to reduce internal stresses and optimize load distribution minimize wear.

--  Carry Higher Loads. Longer rollers give more surface area to carry the load, enabling our customers to do more and operate with higher loads.

--  Run Cooler. Enhanced surface finishes can result in improved lube film, which avoids metal-to-metal contact to keep things running cooler.

--  Run Longer. Hardened steel cages are designed to deliver greater fatigue strength, increased wear resistance and tougher protection against shock and acceleration, making it possible for the bearing to run longer.
