Baxa Corporation Launches MedBoard(TM) Medication Tracking System

LAS VEGAS, Dec. 3 -- Baxa Corporation announces its launch of the MedBoard Web-based medication tracking system, designed to record pharmacy preparation and delivery activities. The first wireless tracking system, MedBoard helps health systems improve productivity through order prioritization and delivery assurance, reducing time spent fielding nursing calls and tracking order status. With its dynamic order monitoring, MedBoard reduces waste by identifying time-sensitive orders and ensuring on-time delivery. Built-in reports allow pharmacy managers to demonstrate performance by delivery times, order type, nursing unit and more.

Notes Baxa CEO Greg Baldwin, "The MedBoard System complements the existing Baxa pharmacy preparation and automation products well. Its function is analagous to a departures and arrivals status screen at the airport -- providing real-time information on where doses are in the preparation queue or in transit to the patient." MedBoard tracks the 20 - 50% of pharmacy orders that are not stocked in automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs), such as first fills, stat orders, compounded items and irregular-size items.

With the MedBoard Medication Tracking System (MTS), pharmacies can manage workflows using barcode technology, improving their efficiency and patient safety, by providing tracking for doses that are not part of pharmacy ADCs. The system requires only a Web browser and handheld scanners to get started. Implementation of the MedBoard MTS can be accomplished quickly. Once the user-customizable features have been determined, developers configure the handheld devices to include the facility's specific rules, lists and users. MedBoard employs technical, administrative and policy safeguards to ensure data security, and is HIPAA compliant.

Baxa is demonstrating the capabilities of the MedBoard Medication Tracking System during the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Midyear Clinical Meeting, the largest annual gathering of industry professionals, in Las Vegas, NV from December 3rd through December 5th, 2007. At the Baxa exhibit, booth number 2106, pharmacists can see a real-time test of the bar coding and tracking features of MedBoard and review the typical workflow using the system.
