Kryptiq Releases Coronary Heart Disease Module

Software Helps Physicians Win the Battle Against Leading Cause of Death in America

PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 2 -- Kryptiq announced today the new CareManager(TM) Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) Module, the first coronary care software tool to allow healthcare providers to proactively manage, track, and monitor patients most at-risk of a heart attack or other coronary event. CareManager gives physicians a new tool to combat the number one cause of death in the US. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), one American dies every minute from a coronary event related to CHD. By empowering physicians to monitor and actively manage patients who are at risk of heart disease, CareManager moves the fight against CHD from heroic treatment to timely prevention, reducing healthcare costs and enabling healthier outcomes.

While other disease management applications derive their data from insurance claims, CareManager directly integrates with the medical practice's electronic health record (EHR). This allows provide real-time access to the status of the most significant patient risk-factors including LDL cholesterol, diabetic glycemic control, blood pressure, and lifestyle choices. The system evaluates these indicators against CHD treatment guidelines recognized by leading sources including the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. Once at-risk patients are identified, treatment goals are based on a comparison between the health indicators, interacting disease states, and the patient's diagnosed coronary history. A unified view of all at-risk and diagnosed patients under a physician's care enables quick and easy identification of those patients most in need of intervention and treatment.

"13 million Americans are affected by CHD today, but millions more are at significant and measurable risk of developing this killer disease," says Malcolm Costello, vice president of marketing for Kryptiq. "By providing physicians with patient-centric intervention tools that leverage the data already stored in the EHR, the focus of chronic disease care shifts from episodic care of individuals to proactive population management. This shift demonstrates yet another breakthrough in delivering improved care powered by Kryptiq's connectivity solutions."

Unlike other chronic conditions, the onset of CHD often coincides with a life threatening event, such as a heart attack. This year alone, according to the American Heart Association, approximately 335,000 will die from a coronary event or other CHD related illness in an emergency room or before they can reach a hospital, and over 50 percent of these sudden fatalities will have shown no previous symptoms of the disease. The cost of treatment for those who survive will exceed $140 billion. However, almost all these patients would have been identified "at risk" by CareManager based on health indicators that may be controlled by appropriate medications or lifestyle changes, potentially preventing the onset of coronary heart disease. CHD is the latest addition to the CareManager suite of disease management modules that includes stroke prevention and diabetes. Each of these modules improves the connectivity between providers and their chronic patient populations.
