Tripp Lite Exclusive: Medical-Grade Products Include Patented Coating to Reduce Microbial Cross-Contamination

Tripp Lite has introduced antimicrobial protection to its full 22‑model line of medical-grade power strips and surge protectors.

Tripp Lite, a world-leading manufacturer of power protection and connectivity solutions, has introduced antimicrobial protection to its full 22‑model line of medical-grade power strips and surge protectors.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate nearly two million hospital patients annually contract a healthcare-acquired infection (HAI), at a cost of $36 million a year. Tripp Lite’s solutions have a patented coating designed to help reduce the risk of HAIs in hospitals and other medical environments. Any object in a healthcare setting frequently handled by staff, patients or visitors becomes a potential breeding ground for harmful microbes such as C. diff and MRSA.

By adding an antimicrobial silver ionic powder coating to all of its power strips and surge protectors designed for healthcare use, Tripp Lite is helping medical staff reduce the transfer of dangerous microbes. The coating meets the requirements of JIS Z 2801:2000, an international standard for evaluating efficacy in antimicrobial products. The EPA-registered coating is 99.9 percent effective in inhibiting the growth of bacteria, viruses, mold and fungi on surfaces.

“With healthcare-acquired infections on the rise, it is imperative medical facilities utilize technology to help slow the spread of bacteria and other microbes,” said Jim Folk, Tripp Lite’s Director of Healthcare Solutions. “This is another tool for managers of clinics, hospitals and medical offices to use in the fight against infections.”
