New D-Link MediaLounge® Player Extends the Microsoft Windows Media Center Experience to Any TV

NEW YORK, Sept. 27 / / - D-Link, the end-to-end computer networking solutions provider for consumers and business, today debuted its latest MediaLounge(R) Media Player designed to operate as an Extender for Windows Media Center from Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT).

The device provides high-speed, uninterrupted wireless streaming and sharing of High-Definition (HD) and standard definition video, movies, digital photos and music - anywhere in the home, regardless of where the PC is located.

The new DSM-750 will be on display in the Microsoft booth at the Digital Life consumer technology, gaming and entertainment event in New York from Sept. 27-30, 2007.

The newest MediaLounge model features the company's award-winning dual-band draft Wireless N technology for the fastest Wi-Fi performance on the market, making the wireless streaming of HD video possible.

"The DSM-750 is our most powerful media player yet," said Daniel Kelley, director of marketing of D-Link Systems, Inc. "Microsoft's Extender for Windows Media Center changes the way we navigate and view the Internet, offering more than 21 content providers - including sports, movies and other entertainment. When paired with our DSM-750, it offers consumers the ultimate experience in digital home entertainment."

Other key features of the new MediaLounge player include cool, silent operation (no moving parts), a convenient remote control, easy-to-navigate TV user interface for quick hassle-free browsing of digital content, high-definition video playback with digital surround sound, a USB 2.0 port to play media stored on a thumb drive or other USB-connected storage device and 10/100 Ethernet connectivity.

The DSM-750 provides the Windows Media Center experience independent of whether the host PC is being used for other uses, so you can watch a recorded TV show in the living room while your child does homework on the PC. In addition, up to five media players can be used to extend Microsoft Media Center simultaneously from the same PC to enjoy music in the kitchen, a photo slideshow in the bedroom, etc.

The DSM-750 launch follows the release of Windows Vista with Windows Media Center Extender technology that enables the distribution of rich digital content and experiences that reside on a Windows Media Center PC to television displays in any room in the home. Windows Media Center makes it easy to access all media files - video, music and photos - and to use the PC as a TV tuner/digital video recorder (DVR). Windows Media Center offers online content from more than 21 providers plus a new Internet TV beta, all accessible through the DSM-750.

In addition to the Extender for Windows Media Center functionality that requires Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate, The DSM-750 also works with standard Microsoft Windows Vista and XP computers through Microsoft's Windows Media Player 11 or Windows Media Connect and other Universal Plug and Play (UpnP) media servers.

Media players like the DSM-750 using draft 802.11n technology also are allowing the motion picture industry to get closer to its goal of allowing consumers to download movies directly from the studios and watch them on their TVs, according to industry research firm JupiterResearch. "The success of the download model will greatly increase when downloading of such large files becomes faster and easier."

The D-Link MediaLounge player has the following dimensions: Length 16.75 in., Width 11.25 in., Height 1.5 in., and Weight 5.5 lbs.
