Company Enhances Family of Remotely Managed Media Converters With New 10/100/1000TX to 1000BASE-X Media Converter

MINNEAPOLIS, June 19 /-- Transition Networks Inc., the conversion technology expert, a wholly owned subsidiary of Communications Systems, Inc. (AMEX:JCS), today announced the introduction of its new, remotely managed 10/100/1000 copper-to-fiber media converter for its Point System(TM) modular chassis, as well as a standalone version.

This new media converter is MEF 9 and MEF 14 certified to deliver Ethernet Private Line (EPL) and Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) services and is designed for customers that require the ability to remotely manage multiple gigabit Ethernet media converters. Service providers can now monitor the link, activate loopback, provision the bandwidth, enter and manage VLANs, QoS and choose appropriate mode on connection straight from their Network Management centers.

"Secure, remotely managed 10/100/1000 OAM/IP-based media converters, coupled with a wide range of advance features, beyond monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities, provide an exceptional value for enterprise and telco networks," said Bill Schultz, vice president of marketing at Transition Networks. "With this new line of media converters, Transition Networks continues its commitment to delivering feature-rich products to assist network managers in quickly identifying and troubleshooting network link failures. The advance features also help ensure the service providers' service level agreements with their customers are met."

Product Features
The xBFFG delivers superior management features via IP-Based remote management or via IEEE802.3ah OAM In-Band management. A remote loopback feature can be activated should troubleshooting be required.

Network security and segmentation is supported by IEEE 802.1q VLAN management, including double VLAN tagging (QinQ) and VLAN tunneling. QoS and a wide variety of link monitoring, troubleshooting, and reporting features increase network performance. Digital diagnostics enable network administrators to measure the quality of the optical connection and report it over the OAM and SNMP management connection. Link Loss Notification signals the fault to the management system. IEEE802.1x and Radius enable user authentication and increase network security and ease of user management.

The xBFFG product family can be managed via graphical user interface, such as Focal Point(TM), as well as any web browser, telnet or local serial command line interface. Service providers can easily gather information about customer's bandwidth and traffic utilization. Management security is assured by a variety of Transition Networks' security features including Firewall (IP filtering), ACL - Access Control Lists, SNMP Lock (Complete SNMP lock) or local CLI lock (no local access).

The xBFFG includes the following features; Auto-Negotiation, Autocross, Symmetrical or Asymmetrical Pause, Bandwidth Allocation, Transparent Link Pass Through and Automatic Link Restoration. The Automatic Link Restoration feature ensures that once the fault condition is removed, no user intervention is required to bring the entire link back up again. The xBFFG also supports remote firmware upgrades which can be performed via the local console port or remotely via TFTP.

Product Configuration
Transition Networks' remotely managed xBFFG media converters are available as a chassis card for the Point System(TM) modular chassis or a standalone version. The advanced features of the xBFFG can be monitored and configured through Transition Networks' Focal Point(TM) software, web browser or telnet. Focal Point(TM) is an SNMP based management application that is included, free of charge, with the xBFFG.

Product Availability
The xBFFG product line will be available in July, 2007. Please contact Transition Networks at (800)526-9267 or www.transition.com for the latest information.
