Measuring Machine measures with +/-.006 in. accuracy.

Press Release Summary:

TRUMPF QUALIFIER (TQ) light/laser-based measuring machine can measure punched, formed, and laser-cut sheet metal parts simultaneously. Measuring machine also makes developing programs using reverse engineering possible by detecting actual contours of parts and converting data into CAD files. Available in 2 versions, TQ 2500 has 4 by 8 ft measuring area, and TQ 1250 has 4 by 4 ft measuring area. Height measurement range is 1.57 in.

Trumpf Unveils New Measuring Machine

TRUMPF Unveils New Measuring Machine - TRUMPF QUALIFIER (TQ 1250 and TQ 2500) FARMINGTON, Conn., November 12, 2001 - This year at FABTECH, TRUMPF is introducing the TRUMPF QUALIFIER, a new light/laser- based measuring machine. Designed for a wide range of applications, the QUALIFIER provides sheet metal fabricators with a new high-speed, high-precision option for quality measurement. "The TRUMPF measuring machine is revolutionizing how sheet metal fabricators and other manufacturers approach three-dimensional parts inspection," remarks Peter Riehle, vice president of sales and marketing for TRUMPF Inc. "The QUALIFIER is the perfect end to your sheet metal processing chain." Using the QUALIFIER, a user can measure punched, formed and laser-cut sheet metal parts, quickly, precisely and simultaneously. The measuring machine also makes it possible to develop programs using reverse engineering; the QUALIFIER can detect the actual contour of a part and convert the data back into a CAD file. The TRUMPF QUALIFIER (TQ) is available in two formats. The TQ 2500 has a measuring area of 4 by 8 feet (2500 by 1250 mm) and the TQ 1250 has a measuring area of 4 by 4 feet (1250 by 1250 mm) of 4 by-4-foot (1250-by-1250-mm) measuring area. Notable for its quickness, the QUALIFIER performs its operations at scanning speeds of up to 1430 inches per minute. Depending on the task, the measuring process takes just a few seconds to just a few minutes. Measuring accuracy is +/-.0006 inches over a 40-by-40-inch working range. The QUALIFIER inspects dimensional accuracy of parts along the x/y-axis using light projected from beneath its glass inspection table. A charge coupled device (CCD) camera captures the image, and the QUALIFIER's software program analyzes it for deviations, which are displayed in red on the monitor. A measuring report can be printed out and used as documentation for quality assurance purposes, as required by ISO 9000. Using a laser and the principle of laser triangulation, the QUALIFIER inspects for variations in height. This makes the QUALIFIER ideal for punched parts containing forms, louvers or other impressions. Its height measurement range is 1.57 inches (40 mm). A cantilever tracking along a granite base permits for fast, yet ultra-precise, movement of the QUALIFIER's camera suspension arm. The stable granite base enables the QUALIFIER to perform flying measurements at scanning speeds that are independent of part complexity and the number of geometries involved. The QUALIFIER's granite base not only provides maximum rigidity and stability during measuring, it also provides thermal stability in the face of temperature change, humidity, or shop floor contaminants. The QUALIFIER can be easily programmed. With the click of the mouse, manual measurements, such as single distances, diameters and angles, are just as simple. "People familiar with TRUMPF know that we are passionate about quality," says Riehle. "With the introduction of the QUALIFIER, we can now offer our customers another way to reaffirm their own commitment to quality."
