Measurement Specialties' Temperature Sensors On-Board Landsat 8 Satellite

NASA's Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM) launched Feb. 11 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. This joint NASA and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) mission will provide additional information to the longest continuous data record of Earth's surface as viewed from space.

On-Board the Landsat 8 Satellite will be NASA GFSC space qualified temperature sensors. The specific deployment of these sensors is classified but they do belong to Measurement Specialties’ family of NTC Space Qualified High Reliability (HI REL) Thermistors that are manufactured per AS9100, and are ideal for critical space qualified applications. Also part of this family are custom NTC space qualified thermistors designed to source control drawings.

LDCM is the eighth satellite in the Landsat series, which began in 1972. The mission will extend more than 40 years of global land observations that are critical in many areas, such as energy and water management, forest monitoring, human and environmental health, urban planning, disaster recovery and agriculture. NASA and the USGS jointly manage the Landsat Program.

Measurement Specialties, Inc. (NASDAQ: MEAS) designs and manufactures sensors and sensor-based systems to precisely and cost-effectively measure a number of physical characteristics in several markets from military and defense to medical, consumer and industrial.

By accurately measuring areas such as pressure, temperature, position, force, vibration, torque, humidity, fluid properties, mass airflow and photo optics, our sensors enhance product functionality, efficiency and safety.

Our devices are embedded by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) or used as stand-alone sensors for test and measurement to provide critical monitoring, feedback and control input.  MEAS also offers extensive sensor customization services ranging from special calibrations and connectors to custom label designs.
