McMurdo Awarded U.S. Army Contract to Design a Personnel Recovery Device
Device will Enhance Soldier Search and Rescue Efforts
LANHAM, Md. - McMurdo, Inc., the most trusted name in emergency readiness and response and part of Orolia Group, announced today that it was awarded a contract by the U.S. Army to provide working prototypes of a custom personnel recovery device (PRD). As a militarized personal locator beacon (PLB), the PRD will be a component of the Army's Personnel Recovery Support System (PRSS), to alert and notify if a soldier has become isolated, missing, detained or captured.
Under the contract, McMurdo will deliver a PRD that meets specific requirements established by the Army. The device will be outfitted with a dual-mode capability for training and for providing operational distress signals.
"The Army recognized a need to complement its PRSS with a dual mode, easy-to-use distress beacon to provide initial report/locate functionality, even in remote locations," said Mark Cianciolo, general manager of McMurdo's aerospace, defense and government programs. "We look forward to providing a PRD that reflects our 34-year legacy of delivering search and rescue PLBs."
In August 2016, McMurdo announced a contract to deliver 16,000 FastFind® 220 PLBs to the U.S. Coast Guard.
