McAfee Upgrades Consumer Security Suites to Ensure Compatibility with Microsoft Windows Vista Operating System

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 30 /- McAfee, Inc., (NYSE:MFE) today announced that its 2007 consumer security software suites, released this past fall, have been upgraded to be compatible with Windows Vista(TM). The upgrade is available to active subscribers of the McAfee® suites - McAfee Total Protection(TM), McAfee Internet Security Suite, McAfee PC Protection Plus and McAfee VirusScan® Plus free of charge as well as McAfee's other consumer products: McAfee Wireless Protection 2007, McAfee SiteAdvisor(TM), and McAfee SiteAdvisor Plus. McAfee's consumer solutions enhance Windows Vista by providing advanced protection against a wide range of online threats and hacker attacks. Consumers can visit us.mcafee.com/windowsvista to get more information about McAfee support for Windows Vista.

In addition to the free upgrades, McAfee customers will benefit from new advances as part of McAfee's leading security-as-a-service platform which the company pioneered in 1999. The latest updates to McAfee security suites improve PC performance through faster browsing speeds, reduced memory usage, and lower demand on the CPU.

"McAfee research shows that online threats are expected to double every two years and will continue to evolve aggressively. Even with new releases like Windows Vista that are designed with security in mind, it's critical for us to ensure that the technology we provide is compatible with and enhances the operating system itself," said Marc Solomon, Director of Product Management, McAfee Consumer. "This new upgrade makes sure our consumer customers have the peace of mind and comprehensive security that can only come from McAfee."

Through McAfee, consumers can get a wide range of protections unavailable in Windows Vista. These include:

o Virus protection
o Rootkit protection
o Secure file deletion
o Safe search and safe browse technologies
o Wireless home network protection
o Ability to easily secure multiple PCs on a consumer's home network
o Warnings about online scams and sites that send excessive emails
o Ability to remove tracking cookies
o Protection for personally identifiable information

Active subscribers will have their software, by default, automatically upgraded to be Windows Vista compatible via a silent update. If consumers have selected to manually install updates, they can download the Windows Vista upgrade. McAfee products are currently compatible with the 32-bit version of Windows Vista. The upgrade will be made available via a phased roll-out. For more information, consumers should visit us.mcafee.com/windowsvista.
