McAfee, Inc. Simplifies and Expands Anti-Spyware Offerings for Small to Large Businesses

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 14 / -- McAfee, Inc. (NYSE:MFE), the leading provider in Intrusion Prevention and Security Risk Management, today announced that it continues to meet the stringent needs of small to large businesses with two newly enhanced anti-spyware offerings: McAfee® AntiSpyware Enterprise, a standalone anti-spyware solution for medium to large businesses, and McAfee Managed VirusScan® plus AntiSpyware; an easy-to-use, subscription-based service for small businesses. Both utilize McAfee's award-winning anti-spyware technology to secure businesses from potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) such as spyware, adware and keyloggers. Both solutions are backed by McAfee AVERT®, one of the top-ranked anti-virus and vulnerability research organizations in the world, and offer comprehensive spyware protection against spyware and PUPs.

According to a recent Forrester Highlight by industry analysts Natalie Lambert and Laura Koetzle, viruses, worms, spyware and spam top SMBs' IT security concerns -- with spyware ranking second to viruses, and worms at 61 percent. In the same survey, spyware was found to cause anxiety for IT workers -- 75 percent of CIOs and top IT executives, and 66 percent of directors and managers of IT, said they are concerned about spyware. In addition, enterprise users were found to face compliance requirements that make defending against spyware a more critical issue, with 69 percent of enterprise users seeing spyware as a major issue.

McAfee AntiSpyware Enterprise is a new standalone anti-spyware solution that unlike most alternatives uses proactive On-Access Scanning to identify and safely eliminate PUPs, such as spyware, adware, dialers, keyloggers, cookies and remote-control programs before they actually install and fully compromise systems. McAfee Anti-Spyware Enterprise can be used on its own, or seamlessly integrated with McAfee VirusScan® Enterprise 7.1 or 8.0i to provide proactive protection from spyware and other PUPs before they have a chance to spread. McAfee AntiSpyware Enterprise is easily deployed and can be centrally managed under a single console with the highly scalable McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator® (ePO(TM)) for the enterprise and McAfee ProtectionPilot(TM), designed specifically for SMBs.

"McAfee AntiSpyware Enterprise contains true On-Access Scanning that prevents the installation of known adware and spyware," said Trevor Cranney, senior product analyst, Sensible Security Solutions. "McAfee continues to close the window of opportunity for malicious code and potentially unwanted programs to impact networked environments with the added Access Protection feature. As a beta participant and McAfee SecurityAlliance ElitePartner, we tested the new version as a standalone solution managed through ePolicy Orchestrator. It integrated seamlessly with competitive products and continued to prevent and detect without impacting performance of the anti- virus solution."

McAfee Managed VirusScan plus AntiSpyware is an affordable online service that provides always-on, automatic virus and spyware protection for small businesses that lack the expertise and personnel to implement and manage security solutions for their desktops and servers. Utilizing the same proactive On-Access Scanning found in McAfee AntiSpyware Enterprise, McAfee Managed VirusScan plus AntiSpyware immediately detects and blocks unwanted spyware and threats to protect users from compromised data or loss of network bandwidth. With a single installation and automatic updates for the integrated anti-virus and anti-spyware solution, this online service ensures current levels of protection, with around-the-clock access to the Web-based management and reporting portal to help IT administrators keep their businesses up and running.

"The automation in McAfee Managed VirusScan plus AntiSpyware has saved me countless hours of hunting down viruses and spyware on our systems and avoiding constantly asking our staff to make sure their protection is up to date," said Jeff Howard, Internet Technology Manager for SSPW Architects. "Just the time saved and the lack of down time has paid for our investment."

"During the past several years, we have seen the problem of spyware rise from the level of "nuisance" to "major security concern" for our small to large business customers," said Steve Crutchfield, director of Product Marketing at McAfee, Inc. "McAfee AntiSpyware Enterprise and Managed VirusScan plus AntiSpyware add an essential layer of protection to help our business customers free up important company resources and eliminate costs associated with helpdesk calls and clean up of malicious threats. Both of the solutions are designed for easy installation and deployment, and set a best- practices security policy for companies of any size."

The new McAfee anti-spyware offerings also provide solution providers with a robust offering to help their existing McAfee customers, as well as new customers, who desire increased protection from PUPs. With McAfee Managed VirusScan plus AntiSpyware, they can offer their customers and prospects a 30- day free trial for up to five systems with e-mail technical support. There is no need to worry about holding additional inventory, since there are no additional stocking, shipping or support costs. In addition, high customer satisfaction rates and around-the-clock protection lead to higher renewal rates with a managed service offering. McAfee AntiSpyware Enterprise offers easy up-sell and cross-sell opportunities through seamless integration with McAfee VirusScan Enterprise. Solution providers also have the opportunity to sell this market-leading solution to new customers who want comprehensive protection from PUPs.

In addition to protecting businesses from spyware at the desktop and server level, McAfee offers comprehensive protection at the network and Internet gateway with McAfee IntruShield(TM) network intrusion prevention appliances and McAfee Secure Content Management (SCM) appliances -- offering customers critical layers of protection to safely block and eliminate an array of PUPs. McAfee also offers McAfee AntiSpyware for consumers, to help safeguard home users from PUPs before they compromise their confidential information, invade their privacy or slow down the performance of their PC.
