McAfee, Inc. Anti-Spam Protection Added to AT&T Unified Communications Service

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 3 -- McAfee, Inc. (NYSE:MFE), the leader in Intrusion Prevention and Security Risk Management, today announced that AT&T, Inc. (NYSE:T) will begin using McAfee's anti-spam technology for small business and residential customers subscribing to its Unified Communications service.

The AT&T family of companies will provide the technology free-of-charge to its Unified Communications customers, ensuring users have the most robust protection against virus infection and propagation, phishing, spam and content abuse. Unified Communications, which already offers McAfee's anti-virus technology, has incorporated anti-spam protection as an added layer of defense to help stop security threats before they impact customers or their networks.

AT&T Unified Communications harnesses the power of IP (Internet Protocol) to enable residential and small business customers to gather all of their voice, fax and e-mail message services into one easy-to-use system. Rather than checking multiple places for messages, customers with Unified Communications use a common mailbox, allowing them to retrieve, forward and reply to messages via phone or online - much like they handle email today. AT&T Unified Communications is currently available in the company's traditional 13-state local service territory. Additional information about this small business service can be found at http://www.sbc.com/gen/landing-pages?pid=3311.

"Small businesses are becoming more and more dependent upon their communication services to help shield their systems from malicious threats and unwanted mail," said Frank Jules, senior vice president, AT&T Business Marketing. "Because this service allows customers to use Unified Communications as their primary 'inbox' for all of their communications services, it is all the more critical that we provide the most advanced protection available for our business customers."

"An integrated and secure content management solution was needed to protect customers' incoming and outgoing mail, helping to clean critical gateways and infection points," said Parveen Jain, executive vice president of McAfee Corporate Marketing and Strategy. "Our McAfee gateway appliances are 'configure-and-forget' solutions that are easy to deploy, manage and use."

The deployment is an example of the McAfee Clean Pipes(TM) strategy, which empowers service providers to build and deliver managed security services for their customers, leveraging McAfee's proven and comprehensive security solutions.

McAfee gateway appliances include full policy support, which gives service providers the ability to identify logical groups and apply different rules for anti-virus, anti-phishing, anti-spam and content-filtering, as well as a dashboard and configuration wizard that offers greater visibility into the appliance's health and information status through a single dashboard display. In addition, full trend analysis and reporting is available, ensuring the administrator always has a bird's-eye view of their messaging traffic.
