McAfee Foundstone Professional Services Consultants Sponsor and Develop Security Tool with Carnegie Mellon Graduate Students

Remote Forensics System Security Device Offered by Company's Leading Security Consultancy Group

SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 18 / -- McAfee, Inc. (NYSE:MFE), the leader in Intrusion Prevention and Security Risk Management, today announced that its leading security services group, Foundstone Professional Services, has released, along with three graduate students at Carnegie Mellon University's Information Networking Institute, a Remote Forensics System (RFS) security application. This application will enable companies to address computer attacks and misuse more efficiently and will be offered by Foundstone Professional Services through the company's website.

The Remote Forensics System application continues the company's focus on teaming with educational institutions to help promote the design and development of industry-leading security solutions. The application was developed by students Jacob Pennock, Damon Smith, and Geoffrey Wilson, in concert with Chris Prosise, their faculty advisor and SVP of Worldwide Consulting Services at McAfee.

"Technology must adapt to meet the constantly evolving and growing threats from viruses and malicious code," said Prosise. "Accordingly, Foundstone emphasizes education and research as tools to improve technology. Our partnership with Carnegie Mellon University is an example of synergies that exist between McAfee and top universities to derive practical solutions from innovative academic research."

Widespread computer attacks and misuse are forcing organizations to formalize incident response plans and create dedicated incident response teams. These plans and teams have a key requirement to gather data from affected computers, which has historically been a manual and time consuming process. As a response to this growing problem, the students at Carnegie Mellon University developed the RFS. The RFS application facilitates data acquisition, storage, and analysis in a forensically sound and efficient manner. The students gave special focus in the design of the RFS to security and the authenticity of forensic data.

The RFS application can be downloaded by visiting www.foundstone.com and is available today.
