Matrix Features High-Speed Continuous Motion Bagging of IQF Food at Northwest Food & Beverage Expo

Not only does the Matrix Morpheus continuous motion v/f/f/s machine package IQF food at up to 120 bags per minute, the new Matrix AutoPro servo adjustment system reduces changeover time by at least 50 percent and enables manufacturers and contract packagers to become more agile. SAUKVILLE, WI - At the Northwest Food & Beverage Expo, January 9-11, Oregon Convention Center, Portland, Ore., Matrix Packaging Machinery, powered by Pro Mach, showcases high-speed continuous motion bagging of individually quick frozen (IQF) food - up to 120 bags per minute formed and filled on the Morpheus vertical form fill seal (v/f/f/s) machine. (Matrix Booth #817)

For the first time in the Northwest, Matrix also shows its new servo-based adjustment system AutoPro for faster, more accurate, and trouble free changeover - faster by a minimum of 50 percent. Utilizing the latest technology, which slashes the cost of servo motion and PC-based control, Matrix incorporates AutoPro as a standard feature on the Morpheus.

Morpheus continuous motion machines are the most advanced in the company’s history in terms of overall speed, film handling, motion control, ease of operation, and lowest overall cost of ownership. The machines are enabled to run films that require longer seal times such as polyethylene used for IQF pillow bags. With its special sealing jaws optimized for thicker gauge films such as polyethylene, the Morpheus yields high throughput, making the model ideal for applications such as IQF, frozen, and fresh cut foods. Morpheus is capable of speeds of up to 180 bags per minute for coffee, snacks, spices, cheeses, dried fruit and more, which utilize thinner gauge films. Morpheus can run bag sizes from 2-12 inches (51-305 mm) wide to 2-20 inches (51-508 mm) long.

Technology breakthrough - AutoPro automated adjustments

AutoPro automates adjustments as fine as .001 inches (.025 mm) on each of nine mechanical axes. AutoPro archives adjustments as recipes and replicates those settings on command. This makes the Morpheus more flexible and gives manufacturers and contract packagers the ability to run a greater number of stock keeping units (SKUs) on the same line without a time penalty caused by making numerous mechanical adjustments.

Apollo, the intermittent motion version of Morpheus

Show attendees should ask booth staff about the Apollo, the intermittent motion v/f/f/s version of the Morpheus with speeds only slightly lower. Both the Morpheus and Apollo are built on Matrix next generation technology that offers such core attributes as small footprint to conserve floor space, high-speed operation for greater throughput, PC-based architecture with the latest in servo motion control as described above, and the PackML programming language, which gives commonality to packaging machine operator interface and machine-to-machine communication.
