Maryland Heights, MO - Chemir, a division of Evans Analytical Group, has upgraded its material identification capabilities with the acquisition of a new Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR). Chemir's analytical chemists use state-of-the-art instruments such as FTIR to help clients identify unknowns, characterize materials isolate contaminants and resolve a variety of difficult analytical challenges.

Chemir 's new Nicolet 6700-FTIR Advanced Gold spectrometer is configured to work in both the near infrared and the mid infrared. Compound identification will be aided with a searchable library of over 70,000 spectra. Additionally, the instrument has an attached Continuum IR microscope. It can be operated in transmittance, reflectance, and Micro-ATR mode, and the automatic stage configuration allows for the chemometric mapping of surfaces. These features will greatly facilitate identification of small particles, and allow for rapid contaminant identification and surface analysis of organic and polymeric materials.

"Our company name,'Chem-IR' was created to emphasize our usage of infrared spectroscopy to examine and characterize unknown materials", says Dr. Eric Uffman, Vice President. "We help companies that are facing difficult problems, such as product failures, contamination issues and customer complaints. An unknown material is often the underlying cause of such issues, and this enhanced tool will expand the lab's capacity to offer an effective solution."
