New Hybrid Sync and Reference Generator Drives Transition to IP-based Video Infrastructure

Tektronix Unveils SPG8000A Master Sync Generator with Field Upgradeable PTP Grandmaster Clock Capabilities at IBC2015 to Support Hybrid IP-based and SDI-based Broadcast Facilities

AMSTERDAM,  -- For most broadcast and video production facilities, the migration to an IP-based video infrastructure will take place incrementally overtime. Tektronix, a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, today unveiled a new master sync generator that supports such a gradual migration strategy by offering support for both traditional SDI-based video and new IP-based video infrastructures in the same instrument.

The announcement coincides with IBC2015, the premier annual event for professionals engaged in the creation, management and delivery of entertainment and news content worldwide. Visit Tektronix at Stand 10.D41 to learn more about the new hybrid master sync generator and to see the broadcast industry's most complete portfolio of solutions for ensuring picture and sound quality.

The new high-performance SPG8000A hybrid master sync generator comes standard with multiple independent black burst and HD tri-level sync outputs that meet the synchronization needs of traditional baseband video broadcast or production facilities. The instrument also incorporates an optional, field-upgradeable IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) grandmaster clock that enables precise synchronization of IP-based production workflow.

"A top priority for our customer base is to make the transition to an IP infrastructure as seamless as possible," said Charlie Dunn, general manager, Video Product Line, Tektronix. "Our new master clock reference generator supports this goal by providing a worry-free, 24/7, stable and reliable facility timing and synchronization solution for today's and tomorrow's applications throughout the whole video infrastructure."

The SPG8000A features a robust hardware design that ensures reliable operation and high availability even in demanding mobile environments. A hot-swappable dual power supply system with daily load test of the backup power supply ensures it is ready when needed. Features such as Stay GenLock and GPS Holdover and Recovery system prevent synchronization shock to the system during the loss and recovery of the reference input signal to help ensure that broadcast signals can be maintained at all times.
