Master Crystal Oscillator targets advanced space applications.

Press Release Summary:

Housed in 50 x 50 x 30 mm package weighing 100 g, LNMO low phase noise master crystal oscillator features phase noise of -110 dBc/Hz at 1 Hz from 10 MHz carrier. Unit has hardened radiation rates less than 100 kRad and offers high frequency stability of ±1E-9 over -30 to +70°C temperature range. With power consumption of 1.5 W, oscillator is suited for GNSS receivers, up/down converters, transponders, board calculators, and synthesizers.

Original Press Release:

New Space-Qualified Ultra Low Phase Noise Master Crystal Oscillator

Spectratime’s LNMO provides the highest performance in meeting the stringent requirements of next generation advanced space applications

Austin, TX  – Spectratime, a world-leading provider of high precision clocks and a business of the Orolia Group (NYSE Alternext Paris – FR0010501015 – ALORO), today announces its new space-qualified LNMO low phase noise master crystal oscillator at the Satellite 2013 conference. The LNMO builds on the success of the model MO master crystal oscillator by offering the lowest noise performance in a very low profile, lightweight package for advanced satellite applications. Its ultra-low noise option features -110dBc/Hz at 1Hz from the 10MHz carrier. Environmentally robust and designed with high reliability and long lifecycle, its hardened radiation rates less than 100 kRad. It also extends the limits of several other key performance characteristics:

  • Ultra small profile and footprint (50x50x30 mm)

  • Lightweight package (100 g)

  • Low power consumption (1.5 W nominal)

  • High frequency stability over a wide temperature range (+/-1E-9 over -30° C to +70° C)

  • Low aging (+/-1E-10/day)

  • High long-term stability (+/-1E-8/year)

  • High short-term stability (1E-12 from 0.1-10 sec)

  • Fast warm-up (10 minutes)

According to Pascal Rochat, Founder and Managing Director of Spectratime, "Many space applications benefit from small size and light weight factors, but equally from ultra low phase noise of a crystal oscillator. Navigation systems, including GNSS receivers, up/down converters, transponders, board calculators, synthesizers and more, require a clock signal with ultra low phase noise performance. The LNMO was specifically designed to meet those needs where atomic clocks are unpractical".

The LNMO broadens Spectratime’s line of space clocks that also includes space-qualified Rubidium (Rb) clocks and world's first passive Hydrogen Maser clocks.

A sample of the LNMO will be shown in the booth of its sister company, Spectracom, at Satellite 2013, booth number 4119, in Washington, DC.
