New Conduction-Cooled Mass Storage PMC for Rugged Embedded Applications Available From ACT/Technico

Ivyland, PA, February 2004 -- ACT/Technico (www.acttechnico.com), a leading supplier of integrated real-time and embedded systems built with CompactPCI, VMEbus, and other open architecture platforms, announces the availability of, a new PMC form factor, conduction-cooled, mass storage device for use on single board computers (SBCs). The Conduction-Cooled PMCStor (CC/PMCStor), ACT/Technico's newest storage module, provides a complete storage solution for both extended temperature and conduction-cooled applications where extended shock and vibration performance are required, such as avionic and shipboard environments.

The new CC/PMCStor, which utilizes rugged design models and industrial grade CompactFlash to provide rugged, high capacity storage in a small space, provides the embedded designer with a cost effective mass storage solution. The new module eliminates cables as well as the need to use SCSI based storage solutions for applications requiring moderate storage capacities, and enables implementation of the storage directly on the SBC.

The memory media and the controller offered with the operating systems have been qualified, providing users with an integrated and tested storage solution. The new CC/PMCStor operating temperature is -40°C to +85°C (-40°F to +185°F), and it supports solid state storage with rugged, enhanced duty CF-II drives, which allow for increased environmental performance.

The CC/PMCStor is available in a conduction-cooled version (model # 9246) with no front panel and a convection-cooled, extended temperature version (model # 9245) with front panel. Both versions are available with or without conformal coating, which is applied in accordance with MIL-I-46508, Type UR.
ACT/Technico has released driver support for VxWorks, Windows, and Linux. Support is also planned for Integrity real-time operating system from Green Hills Software.

Each CC/PMCStor ships fully tested with one drive, interface and software. Pricing starts at $2,695 for a conduction-cooled, non-conformal coated PMCStor with 1 GB rugged CompactFlash.
