Innova-Mass® Steam Custody Transfer Meter Features Built-in Flow Computer and Modem

Sierra Instruments, Inc. of Monterey, California has announced the release of their new Innova-Mass SCT multivariable vortex mass flow meter for steam custody transfer applications. The flow meter provides a direct reading of steam mass flow rate in lb/hr or kg/s, as well as the required durability, corrosion-resistance, and high temperature and pressure capabilities required for this type of service.

The Innova-Mass SCT meter measures mass flow, temperature, and pressure with a single device to improve measurement accuracy, reduce line penetrations, and enhance process diagnostics. A built-in flow computer incorporates peak demand software to calculate maximum demand at 5-minute intervals, and an integrated modem stores and permits access to a week's worth of data. Flow, temperature, pressure, and date/time information can be accessed via the client's computer to resolve billing and contract disputes. This information also helps energy managers analyze consumption trends and control production costs.

The Innova-Mass SCT meter includes a unique Pressure Isolation Valve, which isolates the pressure sensor from the process for calibrating or validating pressure sensor accuracy without removing the meter from the line. The pressure sensor can also be replaced in the event of a failure.

The instrument's smart electronics provides access to all measured variables and programming menus, and permits field-configuration without disruption of the existing measurement signal. The flow meter can be configured directly from the control panel or workstation via RS485 or HART protocol.
