Solutia's CPFilms Business Introduces New Optically Clear Polyester Protective Masking Film

MARTINSVILLE, Va. - April 28, 2005 - Solutia Inc. (OTCBB: SOLUQ) today announced that its CPFilms business, a leading manufacturer of precision coated films for industrial, commercial and solar control applications, is introducing MF5, a premium clean, optically clear protective masking film. Due to the very high coefficient of friction (COF) on the surface of MF5, it has light tack, static cling-like properties (without the static) to various films and materials, including aluminum metallized PET, glass, polycarbonate, polyester, acetate and many others.

Employing silicone chemistry and coated in a clean room environment to avoid contamination, MF5 has no adhesive residue and contains less than 0.4 micrograms/cm² of extractable silicone. It is very easy to remove, yet adheres strongly to other substrates during processing, at temperatures up to 325° F. Available on a "made-to-order" basis, MF5 is coated on 1.5, 2 and 3 mil optically clear polyester film.

There are multiple uses for MF5. These include use as a protective film during subsequent processing of easily damaged substrates, such as vacuum coated aluminum or sputtered film, to avoid scratching during coating and laminating. It can also be used as a support film for processing very thin, flimsy film substrates, or as a carrier film to die cut against. Typical applications include optical electronic displays, graphics, decorative films, electronics, and specialty adhesive tapes.

CPFilms also is the producer of Clearsil® UV5A "very easy" silicone release system. Used against aggressive acrylic and hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs), UV5A is a popular choice within the Clearsil® line of film based release liners. Included within this product line are ClearLES(TM) Low Extractable Silicone Releases UV12 and UV50, fluorosilicone release S10 for use with silicone PSAs and materials, and NSR Non Silicone Release. Coated mostly on polyester films in environmentally controlled clean rooms, Clearsil® release films are intended for high end applications where cleanliness and consistent release performance, roll-to-roll and run-to-run, is critical.

Solutia's CPFilms business is a leading worldwide manufacturer of precision coated polymer films. Its production capabilities include a wide range of film enhancement technologies including coating and laminating, silicone release coating, deep dyeing, and vacuum coating, including thermal evaporation and sputter coating. With production facilities in the United States and the United Kingdom, CPFilms supports a worldwide clientele consisting of Fortune 1000 companies and other leading OEM manufacturers.
