Marlin Steel Wire Products Carries Out Experimental Design
Alcoa's basket request for Marlin Steel Wire Products of Baltimore (www.MarlinWire.com) was hardly typical.
The manufacturer of components for aviation and other technology industries needed a large, circular wire mesh basket, four feet in diameter - roughly the size of a child's backyard wading pool. The basket needed handles so it could be lowered to fit inside a large tank, with the ability for several of the baskets to be stacked. The container would be exposed to extreme heat for short periods of time.
And it also had to be able to hoist up to 400 pounds of metal alloy parts.
An "after" photograph tells the tale: The Marlin basket with a heavy coil of cable as its payload is being hoisted by front-end loader. It was an experimental design, but Marlin executed the project with economy and speed to meet the customer's stated priorities for the job.
