Marine Travelift Inc. Expands Presence in Southeast Asia with Addition of 600 C to New Nautilus II Shipyard in the Philippines
STURGEON BAY, WI – Marine Travelift Inc. has announced that the new Nautilus II Shipyard and Repair facility in the Philippines' Navotas Fishery Port Complex recently took delivery of a new Marine Travelift 600 C mobile boat hoist. The opening of this ultramodern shipyard, and its ability to now service ships up to 200 feet or 600 tons, helps solidify the Philippines' standing as one of the top shipbuilding nations in southeast Asia.
For 20 years, the Del Rosario family operated a 300-ton Marine Travelift mobile boat hoist at the original Nautilus Shipyard at Navotas, which serviced its fleet of approximately 100 fishing boats. With the new P400 million facility, however, they now have 1,000 workers.
Not only can the Nautilus II yard focus on shipbuilding, it can provide repair services such as underwater machinery repairs, restoration, and repowering for a variety of vessels, including fishing boats, carriers, barges, roll-on/roll-off ships, cargo freighters and more. Owners no longer have to wait for high tide to dock their ships, and the yard can service as many as 15 large vessels simultaneously.
"The profitability of the fishing industry can be affected if ships cannot be repaired," fishing industry magnate Roberto Del Rosario told reporters during the shipyard's soft-launch event.
Keeping efficiency and profitability in mind, the Del Rosario family chose a Marine Travelift 600 C mobile boat hoist that features wireless remote control, customized inside clear width and height, additional hydraulic sling adjustment, and zinc enriched primer.
Marine Travelift's wireless remote control boasts a range of 300 feet (100 meters), which increases operator visibility of the boat, launch piers and surrounding area, improves operational safety, and ensures maximum maneuverability in the yard. It also allows the yard to operate the machine with less manpower.
To maintain consistency and provide an extra measure of efficiency and safety, the wireless remote control unit is laid out in the same format as the controls in the operator cab. What's more, Marine Travelift provides important mechanical back-up with direct to valve controls in the operators cab.
Next, Marine Travelift customized the 600 C's inside clear width and inside clear height to best suit the types of vessels that the Nautilus II Shipyard and Repair facility will be building and servicing. Even if special nonstandard dimensions are necessary, the lifting capacity of the machine will not be compromised; Marine Travelift engineers ensure that the width and height changes always fit within certain parameters.
With the standard bolted flange in the top beam, Marine Travelift can also increase the ICW after manufacturing, enabling a machine to handle wider vessels at a later date or fit new launch piers.
Sling adjustment maximizes the versatility and lifting potential of a Marine Travelift mobile boat hoist. With the additional hydraulic sling adjustment option, the hoist operator can change the spacing between the slings at the touch of a button. He can even reposition the slings to improve load placement while the vessel is still in the water, adjusting each sling's position to avoid stabilizers or other sensitive elements on the vessel's hull.
