Section 179 allows businesses to deduct the full purchase price (up to $500,000) for equipment leased or financed and put into service before December 31, 2013. In essence, accelerated depreciation, as opposed to depreciating the equipment over its useful life, can significantly reduce the cost of ownership by reducing taxable income for the year and freeing up cash flow.Â
