Malvern Instruments Puts the Spotlight on Microrheology at 2013 Society of Rheology Meeting

Malvern, UK – Rheology experts from Malvern Instruments will be delivering a poster presentation exploring the novel characterization technique of microrheology at the 85th Annual Meeting of the Society of Rheology in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, from 13-17 October 2013. Malvern will also be exhibiting, with both the Kinexus rotational rheometer and the Zetasizer Nano ZSP on display. The Zetasizer Nano ZSP is a market-leading dynamic light scattering (DLS) system with integrated software that enables microrheology measurements, extending rheological testing into regimes not accessible with a conventional rheometer. Details on the meeting and how to register attendance can be accessed online at http://www.rheology.org/sor/default.htm.

Malvern’s poster presentation is entitled “Novel optical microrheometry techniques for biological complex fluids characterization.” DLS-based microrheology allows the characterization of low viscosity, weakly-structured and highly strain-sensitive materials into the very high frequency regime, and can give critical insight into the short timescale dynamics of such systems. The poster highlights the complementary use of DLS microrheology to assess the rheological characteristics of dilute polymer solutions based on changes of macromolecular conformation.

Malvern’s Kinexus rotational rheometer offers high performance characterization of dispersions, complex fluids and soft solids and is used within a diverse range of industries and applications; from pharmaceutical drug development through to food quality testing. Kinexus has been designed with dual-action capabilities to enable advanced shear and vertical testing. Powerful rSpace software enables both full flexibility of test design for academic researchers, and operation under Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) driven protocols for consistent rheology testing in an industrial environment.
