Makers, Hackers and Inventors Innovate, Build, and Compete with Red Bull Creation . . . and Lincoln Electric
Cleveland – Six teams of creative thinkers. A city full of inspiration. One massive challenge: Create and bring to life an invention of the future in three days in the 2013 Red Bull Creation competition in New York. Lincoln Electric, the exclusive supplier of welding equipment, consumables and safety apparel for the contest, will help these out-of-the-box thinkers make it happen at the final challenge event, June 12-16, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Red Bull Creation, a "national, 72-hour, themed innovation competition," challenges "makers, hackers and inventors" to push their limits by creating something new and inspiring at the Northside Festival, New York City's largest annual discovery festival in Brooklyn's McCarren Park. Six teams, each composed of four people, will fly to New York "to compete in a theme-driven live-build competition." Red Bull will announce the theme of the competition at the start of the build period.
The team selection process was simple. Hopeful participants were directed to "use interactive lighting to create something awesome" and upload a video about what they made. Entries had to incorporate the "TurBull Encabulator", an Arduino®-controllable, multi-function circuit board. From these videos, a panel of judges chose six teams to travel to the Big Apple and compete in the final live-build competition.
For the final face off, the six teams will have 72 hours to imagine, design and build their creation, based on the assigned theme. After the theme is announced, the teams will be sent "to create, collaborate and invent amongst provided materials and equipment" in McCarren Park. The competitors will have access to a myriad of high-tech design and fabrication tools, including the following notable products from Lincoln Electric:

At the end of this high-stakes innovation marathon, the public will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the mind-bending inventions designed for the competition. Inventions will be on display on Sunday, June 16, in Brooklyn's McCarren Park. The winning team will receive $10,000 cash and tools to support their next project.
