Major Gulf Coast Refiner Uses In-Line Viscosity Control for Diesel Fuel Refining

Boston, MA - A major international oil company has purchased a third in-line process viscometer from Cambridge Viscosity to monitor the viscosity of diesel fuel blending for their Texas gulf coast refinery.

"The large refinery utilizes the Cambridge viscometers to meet strict new US government regulations for providing low-sulfur diesel fuel to the market," says Robert Kasameyer, president of Cambridge Viscosity. "They can now accurately measure and report diesel viscosity throughout the blending process while achieving high throughputs and lower labor costs and meeting the company's exceptionally high quality standards."

Prior to purchasing the viscometers, refinery technicians would pull samples hourly and send them to the lab for testing. Not only was this a time-consuming and labor intensive process, if a sample was out of spec, the whole batch was rejected for re-blending or further processing, a costly and lengthy undertaking for the refinery. The Cambridge viscometers provide accurate, real-time viscosity readings to prevent any batch rejection and the units' self-cleaning feature eliminates maintenance issues.

Cambridge Viscosity, a leader in advanced laboratory and production viscometer systems, provides automated viscometers used worldwide by oil refiners, petrochemical companies and users of oil products to optimize their product and process performance. Cambridge's global reach is important for providing application engineering support and service wherever and whenever needed.
