Maintenance-Free Magnetic Slide Conveyors Outpace Machine Tools

Non-jamming, maintenance-free magnetic conveyors that meet the uptime and productivity of today's machining, forming, stamping and automatic assembly equipment

The machine tools, the stamping presses, the assembly systems of today are out-producing systems of just two years ago. But, to be effective, this equipment must be given the auxiliary equipment, including the conveyors that feed these machines or remove scrap materials that can match them step for step. And that's the reason for the new, improved design of Magnetic Slide Conveyors from Storch Magnetics (Livonia, MI). Featuring upgraded design and construction innovations that enhance the systems' reliability, safety, and low, virtually maintenance-free operation, Storch's lineup of conveyors easily meet and exceed the high reliability levels of today's cutting, forming and assembly systems. The non-jamming slide conveyors are ideal for conveying large, awkward shape formed parts as well as small to medium size stampings, or for trim outs and scrap, and can be used for moving parts such as nuts and bolts to assembly stations.

The new design features a sealed oil bath that continuously lubricates all moving parts and drive train components for long service and minimal maintenance requirements. Precision construction means the unit is also sealed - liquid tight - to eliminate wear and tear on internal components from contaminates.

The completely enclosed design of the magnetic slide conveyors makes them ideal for the removal of chips, especially the small residue of cast iron machining, and other ferrous scrap from tended and untended CNC machine tools, for transporting small parts such as nuts and bolts to assembly hoppers, or for moving small stamped parts or trim from stamping presses. Because they convey without these materials contacting any moving parts, the magnetic slide conveyors are jam-free.

How? Unlike hinged belt conveyors where chips and small parts can accumulate in bearing areas or drive components and jam the mechanism, the magnetic conveyor has a non-moving stainless steel bed under which enclosed ceramic magnet assemblies travel via a roll chain conveyor. Chips and even larger scrap or assembly components fall to the slide bed and are pulled or slid along to a dump box or hopper. All drive components are totally enclosed and oil tight for their protection, and importantly, the safety of operators.

An exclusive Storch design coupled with premium quality materials and drivetrain components has eliminated the need for take-up devices and their periodic adjustments, so routine maintenance procedures are eliminated.

Four standard conveyor designs are available plus Storch engineers custom configurations for virtually all machine tools and applications. Side guides can be provided with drain perforations for coolant runoff and tanks to reclaim fluids or make waste handling easier. Vertical rises of up to 90° may be incorporated into the conveyor design to help drain machining fluids more thoroughly and save floor space. Drives may be specified as constant or variable speed to match application needs.

In addition to magnetic slide conveyors, Storch Magnetics also engineers magnetic chip/coolant separators, magnetic hand tools and lifting equipment, magnetic floor sweepers, electomagnets for harsh industrial environments, plus permanent magnets including rare earth and ceramic materials for OEM use.
