Magnet Drive System meets NEMA Premium and EPAct standards.

Press Release Summary:

Equipped with WISE insulation system, W Magnet Drive System(TM) incorporates W Magnet Drive inside motor, which is controlled by CFW11 variable frequency drive rated 380-480 V and 20-200 hp. Motor, rated at 460 V and 15-200 hp, is fitted with NdFeB magnets inserted inside rotor, instead of conventional aluminum alloy squirrel cages. CFW11 drive used with W Magnet Drive System uses vector control technology algorithm, which enables control without use of encoder/position sensor.

WEG Releases High Efficiency W Magnet Drive System(TM)

WISE insulation system provides extended life, reliability

ATLANTA, Ga.-WEG Electric Corp. (www.weg.net), a leading global supplier of motors, drives, controls, transformers, and generators, announces the release of the W Magnet Drive System(TM), providing higher efficiency and longer life.

Available immediately, the W Magnet Drive System incorporates the W Magnet Drive inside the motor, which is controlled by the CFW11 variable frequency drive (VFD). Compared to standard induction motors, the W Magnet motor promotes a 52 percent reduction in weight and a 47 percent reduction in volume. The motor is fitted with NdFeB magnets, inserted inside the rotor, instead of conventional aluminum alloy squirrel cages. Replacing the squirrel cage with the W Magnet technology ensures both higher efficiency levels and a much smaller frame than conventional induction motors.

"The W Magnet Drive System meets both NEMA Premium and EPAct High Efficiency standards," stated Dale Basso, Motors Manager, WEG Electric Corp. "Extra high efficiency, lower weight and volume, reduced noise levels, and extended life are just a few of the benefits when utilizing the W Magnet Drive System."

For precision control and optimum energy efficiency, the CFW11 drive used with the W Magnet Drive System uses WEG's unique vector control technology algorithm. This enables control without the use of an encoder / position sensor, and by reducing the number of components, helps improve reliability. For applications within buildings or other sensitive areas, the W Magnet motor features significant noise reduction to under 73dB(A).
