Hurco Introduces Three Models of Traveling Column Machining Centers

Indianapolis - February 26, 2004...Hurco Companies, Inc. is excited to introduce three new additions to its High Performance Machining Centers product line. Based on a unique traveling column design with either a vertical or horizontal spindle orientation, the new VTXV, VTXU, and HTX500 provide the speed and precision required by advanced machining processes. Each model shares a common design using both dynamic and static FEA computer design techniques. The cast iron frame of the VTX and HTX series weighs over 27,000 lbs. and can achieve an acceleration rating of 0.4 G in all three major axes. Compared to a typical vertical machining center with a traveling table design, the VTX and HTX series machines are capable of much higher contour machining rates with superior surface finishes.

The VTXV has a stationary table capable of holding parts over 4,400 lbs. When coupled with its X, Y, and Z travels of 31.5" x 27.5" x 20", the VTXV is capable of handling a variety of large, complex parts. The 32-station swing arm ATC is fully enclosed to ward off contamination while providing six-second chip-to-chip performance. The Cat 40 spindle uses advanced drive technology to achieve 12,000 RPM providing the finesse for superior surface finishing and still has 175 ft.-lbs. of torque at 720 RPM providing the power for roughing. The VTXV has an exceptional ability to machine a wide range of materials using the latest cutting tool technology.

For advanced machining capabilities, the integrated frame design of the VTX can accommodate a precision two-axis trunion table, resulting in the VTXU machining center. The VTXU has been designed to be the perfect complement to machining both 5-axis simultaneous work and meet the increasing demand for efficient handling of multi-sided parts. For core and cavity work in mold shops, the ideal method of processing is to mount the part on a multi-axis table and process with 5-axis software. This provides the best possible surface finish. The integrated design of the machine allows the two-axis motion of the trunion table to be separated from the 3-axis motion in the traveling column, resulting in greater precision. Shops dealing with complex aerospace and medical machining applications need to process multiple sides in a single set-up to remain competitive. The VTXU, with its A-axis and C-axis integrated design trunion table, is ideal to handle such work. With a part weight up to 600 lbs. and C-axis rotation of 360 degrees matched with an A-axis of -30 to +100 degrees, the table can solve an infinite number of part accessibility problems.

For customers finding that the process capabilities of their conventional vertical CNC machines with moving table are not meeting their global competitive needs, Hurco's new VTXV and VTXU machining centers can provide the solution to help them stay ahead of the competition.

For small batch machining processes, Hurco's new HTX500 with a horizontal spindle configuration provides high-performance capabilities at a great value. With the same spindle specifications as the VTX series, the HTX500 is equipped with two 500mm pallets. It's capable of 4th axis contouring using NC programming and conventional indexing. The pallet index time is a fast 1.2 seconds for 90 degrees and the pallet shuttle time is a productive 8 seconds. The swing arm ATC has been increased to 60 tools to accommodate long runs with tool optimization. With X, Y, and Z travels of 28" x 24" x 24", the HTX500 has a generous work cube at a very affordable price.

High performance machines need a high performance control. The VTX and HTX series machines feature Hurco's powerful UltiMax® control. Equipped with high-speed microprocessors, huge RAM and hard drive memories, UltiMax easily links 2D, 3D and multi-sided machining programs with its knowledge-based software and CAM compatibility. In addition, Hurco's industry standard NC is CAM friendly for five-axis simultaneous machining. The result is incredibly fast turnaround times for these complex parts.

If you're competing with the best in a global economy, take the lead with Hurco's VTX and HTX series-offering many features for the best value.
