Aluminum Cutting Customers Get Their First Look at Cincinnati Machines V5-4000 5-Axis VMC at IMTS 2002

CINCINNATI, OH (September 4, 2002) -Cincinnati Machine's unique new 5-axis V5-4000 Vertical Machining Center, built for efficient, high speed processing of aluminum components of any size, can be seen cutting metal for the first time at IMTS 2002 Booth #8101.

Meeting the growing demand for 5-axis machining of large parts, the V5-4000's feature-packed, modular design allows manufacturers to maximize their capital investment.

The machine combines the best components from Cincinnati Machine's V5-2000 and V5-3000 Vertical Machining Centers, and U5(TM) Universal Machining Center to deliver proven reliability at an extremely competitive price.

The V5-4000, with 137.8 x 66.9" (3.5 m x 1.7 m) table and standard X-Y-Z travel of 157.5 x 98.4 x 29.5" (4 m x 2.5 m x 75 m), offers an X-axis range of almost three times the typical C frame machines. The expansion of the Y-axis with the bridge design enables the machining of aircraft parts such as bulkheads, spars and floor beams.

The Cincinnati head design provides extended A and B rotary axis travels of +/- 40° for processing a broader range of parts. The advanced construction of the innovative, ballscrew driven 2-axis head provides a high degree of dynamic stiffness, as well as superior rotary speed and torque with a wide range of motion for machining complex aluminum parts.

The machine comes standard with a powerful 45 Hp S6 duty-rated with 15,000 rpm, HSK-63A spindle, with an option of a 24,000 rpm high speed spindle. It is powered by the latest in CNC technology, the next generation SINUMERIK 840D from Siemens.

A digital NC system for virtually all applications, the SINUMERIK 840D offers modularity to meet all metal cutting demands quickly and easily. The modular 32-bit microprocessor CNC continuous path control manages high-speed 5-axis contour
machining operations with ease. Housed in a compact 50 mm wide unit with the SIMODRIVE 611D drive system, it integrates a SIMATIC S7 programmable controller and Profibus DP distributed I/O link. Together, a choice of intelligent operator panels
running Microsoft Windows NT® and a handheld pendant with integrated handwheel allow the operator full control over all machining functions.

Cincinnati Machine is a leading global manufacturer and supplier of CNC machine tools, such as turning centers, vertical machining centers, horizontal machining centers/cells, 5-axis machining centers, universal machining centers, profilers, routers and composite processing equipment. Additionally, Cincinnati PLUS(SM) provides the most comprehensive package of service and support available in the industry today. Industries
served include aerospace, heavy equipment, fluid power and automotive, as well as small job shops.
