The New City Machine Face-and Center Machine Offers Low-Cost Solution to Machining Ends of Parts

MUNCIE, IN (September 25, 2002) -The new hydraulically-controlled City Machine Face-and-Center Machine combines cutting tools to either face-and-center or face-and-chamfer, providing a low-cost and efficient solution for machining the ends of a variety of parts and materials.

For most parts, a single self-center hydraulic fixture is all that is needed. When machining longer parts, a second fixture can be used. In applications requiring a second fixture, the first fixture can be moved off center and the second mounted parallel to it, allowing the ends of parts to be rigidly supported during machining.

The efficient hydraulic power and control systems can power both spindle slides and fixtures, and includes independent speed controls for rapid advance/retract and feed rate for each rugged 5 Hp spindle. CAT 40 toolholders are standard for each spindle.

Electrical controls consist of an Allen-Bradley SLC 5/03 PLC and a pushbutton station mounted on the front of the machine, which allows for manual machine operations such as jogging slides and "auto mode."

The machine's standard coolant system is comprised of a 34 gallon reservoir and a 1.5 Hp pump capable of delivering coolant to each spindle at 4 GPM.

Standard equipment includes two-jaw self-center chucks, as well as flood coolant chips are channeled to the rear of the machine to be removed manually or by an optional chip conveyor.

Optional features include automatic part loading and unloading, which can be designed to suit specific machining applications, as well as through-spindle coolant, a 7.5 Hp spindle motor, and a 7,000 RPM spindle.
