ATS Rotoper Offers Heavy-Duty Machining And Light Finishing In A Single Clamp

CAMBRIDGE, ONT. - The ATS Rotoper (ROTary OPERation) flexible dial system, from ATS' Machine Tool Division, is a high-volume, multi-station machining center for both heavy-duty machining and light-cut finishing of large, complex five-sided steel, aluminum or cast iron components.

Available in three- to 10-station configurations, the ATS Rotoper's proprietary locking-pallet design and single-clamp workpiece fixturing deliver excellent station-to-station accuracy and fixture rigidity for unmatched repeatability at high production volumes.

A 'transfer and pallet docking' process isolates each Rotoper workstation module from the transfer table, protecting fine finishing processes from the vibration of heavy machining operations so both can be done simultaneously. After a pallet has been positioned at a machining station, it is locked into place with a Hirth coupling. The pallet locks are available with fixed-orientation or a full 360 degrees of motion for 5 side part access. A range of proprietary 3 axis CNC modules is also offered, with conventional spindles or tool turrets, for optimum process options. Chip to chip tool change time is as low as three seconds.

For heavy duty machining applications, boxway CNC slide units are available with an optional eight-station tool changer and hydraulic slide locks for maximum rigidity. Linear roller slide CNC units are also offered for medium to light duty service.

The ATS Rotoper can deploy up to 72 tools in combination, with drive options up to 25 kW, offering a broad range of single clamp, multi process, options. The modular, enclosed design provides "dry floor" operation and easy access for tool changes and maintenance.

A full CNC controls package includes tool monitoring and tool life management options, user-friendly multi-screen graphics and operator-friendly online training manuals.

ATS provides a wide range of custom options for the Rotoper, including comprehensive selection of robotic load/unload options, motorized servo spindles and through-spindle coolant. Full service automated assembly and test integration is also available from ATS for those projects requiring a machining and assembly "turnkey" manufacturing solution.

A world leader in factory automation solutions, ATS has designed and built more than 10,000 automation systems in areas as diverse as telecommunications, semiconductors, fiber optics, automotive, computers, solar energy and consumer products. ATS has 26 manufacturing and customer support facilities across North America, Europe and Asia.
