Machine Vision Lenses fit 1.3 megapixel cameras.

Press Release Summary:

Megapixel Lenses, for 2/3 in. CCD image format, are available in 3 focal lengths: 16mm F/1.4, 25mm F/1.4 and 50mm F/2.8. 25 and 50 mm lenses have 0% distortion, providing optical performance from corner to corner, and making them suitable for machine vision applications where close inspection of small objects is needed. Lenses have locking screws for focus and iris adjustments, important when used on vibrating inspection equipment.

Tamron Announces New Series Of Megapixel Lenses

Commack, New York, January 22, 2002. Tamron USA, Inc. debuted a new line of Megapixel Lenses at the Photonics West Show held this week in San Jose, California. Designed specifically for 1.3-Megapixel cameras, these new Tamron lenses offer high optical performance and are available in three focal lengths to fit a variety of imaging needs: 16mm F/1.4, 25mm F/1.4 and 50mm F/2.8 for the 2/3" CCD image format. This new series complements the company's existing line of standard high-resolution lenses and super high-resolution lenses designed for more than 3-Megapixel cameras.

Megapixel cameras are becoming increasingly popular in medical and microscopy areas as well as agricultural inspection, medical diagnostics, teleconference and machine vision markets where high image quality is absolutely necessary. Therefore, image quality provided by the lens is critical, and imperative is low distortion. Tamron's new lenses offer ultra low distortion for use on these types of high-resolution cameras. In fact, the 25mm and 50mm boast 0% distortion, thus providing excellent optical performance from corner to corner.

The lenses also feature a high close-up capability, yet there is no sacrifice in optical resolution, brightness or resolution. With an M.O.D. of just 0.15m on the 16mm and 25mm and only 0.20m on the 50mm without the use of extension rings, these lenses are well suited for machine vision applications where close inspection of smaller objects is needed. The new Tamron Megapixel lenses, even at these close distances, provide excellent detail of complex items.

Like all of Tamron's machine vision lens series, the Megapixel Series offers a compact design that makes fitting these lenses to various inspection apparatus and automation equipment easy. The maximum diameter on each lens is a mere 34mm and they accept a 30.5mm filter. The lenses also feature locking screws for both focus and iris adjustments, especially important when used on vibrating inspection equipment.

The new lenses will be available in Spring 2002. Pricing has not yet been established.
