Machine Tool Probe features advanced optical transmission.

Press Release Summary:

Equipped with 360° infrared optical transmission system with range up to 6 m, Model OMP60 can be operated in any spindle orientation. With miniaturized electronics, unit measures just 63 mm dia x 76 mm long. Probe is programmable through trigger-logic, which eliminates need to access probe internals and damage due to coolant and debris ingress. Using AA batteries, probe is sealed to IPX8 standard and is resistant to false triggering induced by shock and vibration.

Compact OMP60 Machine Tool Probing System

New probe combines advanced optical transmission with simplified installation, setup and programming, allowing easy retrofit to machine tools

April 2006 - Renishaw's new generation OMP60 machine tool probe combines advanced optical transmission with simplified installation, setup and programming, allowing easy retrofit to machine tools. A 360-degree infrared optical transmission system with a range of up to 6 meters allows probe operation in any spindle orientation. A revised state-of-the-art modulated optical transmission method offers the highest level of resistance to light interference. Compact design, application versatility and simplified installation/setup bring in-process probing advantages to a wide range of machining centers and mill-turn machines, enabling "done in one" production for just-in-time and lean manufacturing operations. The new probe provides high-speed operation in single touch or double touch probing routines.

Miniaturized electronics, first proven in the highly successful OMP40 probe, allow a compact unit measuring just 63 mm diameter by 76 mm long for wide application versatility. Simplified system installation and setup make the OMP60 especially effective for retrofitting to machine tools without existing probing.

User-programmable parameters for multiple turn-on/turn-off options make the OMP60 simple to optimize for specific machine applications. The probe is programmable through Renishaw's proven trigger-logic, a unique and simple programming method that allows users to program probe options without accessing probe internals. This also eliminates the risk of subsequent damage due to coolant and debris ingress.

Ease-of-use has been further enhanced through compatibility with readily available AA batteries. Operational life is further increased with lithium batteries, giving OMP60 industry-leading economy. At typical levels of probe use, a battery-life in excess of 6 months can be expected, minimizing machine downtime and maintenance costs.

The first of a new generation of optical transmission products, the OMP60 is designed for compatibility with all current Renishaw optical receivers and next generation optical systems. It is compatible with existing OMM/MI12 and OMI receivers, enabling current MP7, MP8, MP9 and MP10 system users to benefit from some of its innovations. The OMP60 probe can also be combined with the new OMI-2 integrated receiver and interface.

Designed to withstand the harshest machine tool environments, the OMP60 features IPX8 standard sealing and high resistance to false triggering induced by shock and vibration.
