New Machine Helps Automate Coil Manufacturing
HARRISBURG, Pa., November 6, 2003 - Tyco Electronics, a business segment of Tyco International, Ltd., today introduced the MPT-5LS machine. The MPT-5LS is a magnet wire terminal insertion machine capable of inserting SIAMEZE magnet wire terminals and Lead Lok terminals. The machine typically inserts a SIAMEZE magnet wire terminal into a bobbin to terminate magnet wires and a Lead Lok terminal is then installed to help secure the lead wire in the coil cavity as well as provide strain relief for the lead wire. The constant pressure of the SIAMEZE terminal on the magnet wire and the retention features of the Lead Lok terminal provide a reliable, permanent connection.
SIAMEZE magnet wire terminals employ an insulation displacement contact which eliminates the need to strip, trim or otherwise prepare the magnet wire. Rather, the edges of the terminal penetrate the insulation or varnish and make contact with the wire's conductor. Additionally, SIAMEZE terminals have a compact design and can accept a wide range of magnet wire. Insulation displacement termination often requires considerably less labor and time than soldering magnet wire to the lead wire.
MPT-5LS machines are air operated with electronic controls. SIAMEZE terminals and Lead Lok terminals are fed through the machine on reels that are positioned at 45-degree angles to help keep the machine's footprint to a minimum. The machine is intended for medium to high-volume production of motors, transformers, solenoids and other coil wound magnetic devices.
