Rockwell Automation Adds RSView Machine Edition to MobileView Terminals, Upgrades MobileView Operating System

MILWAUKEE, Feb. 5, 2004 - Portable human-machine interface (HMI) system users can reduce total cost of ownership through faster setup and changeover times now that Rockwell Automation has added the option of pre-loading RSView Machine Edition (ME) 3.1 HMI software from Rockwell Software to its Allen-Bradley MobileView Machine Terminals and Guard Terminals. In addition, MobileView terminals now ship with the new Microsoft Windows CE 4.1 operating system (OS).

With the addition of RSView ME to the terminals and the updated OS, users no longer need to install and maintain a separate server to access HMI software, cutting implementation costs in half and creating a more streamlined design.

"By combining these two products - RSView ME and MobileView - users will save money and enjoy a simplified solution," said Dave Kaley, MobileView product manager, Rockwell Automation. "It's a natural fit that will benefit everyone from machine operators concerned about ease of operation and simplified design to management watching the bottom line."

RSView ME is HMI application development software that allows operators to monitor and control individual machines or small processes. It is often used with MobileView terminals - portable HMI devices designed to help users control their machines from remote locations. Previously, RSView ME was available only for computers running the Windows 2000 OS. As a result, users had to connect MobileView terminals, which are based on the Windows CE platform, to another server to run RSView ME. That server is no longer necessary; the distributed MobileView HMI can now run the software. However, companies can still use the central-server architecture if preferred.

These latest enhancements, available in March 2004, are part of Rockwell Automation's ViewAnyWare strategy, which is designed to offer a consistent, scalable and unified suite of monitoring and control solutions for the entire manufacturing enterprise.
