Luminescent to Provide Enabling Lithography Platform to Cypress's Silicon Valley Technology Center

SVTC and Luminescent to Jointly Develop New Manufacturing Approach Using Inverse Lithography Technology (ILT)

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. and SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 3 -- Luminescent Technologies, Inc. and Silicon Valley Technology Center (SVTC), a division of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY) today announced a joint development program in which the companies will collaborate on advanced lithography technology for semiconductor manufacturing. Once installed at SVTC, the Inverse Lithography Technology (ILT) products from Luminescent will be used to develop a range of novel silicon solutions at the 65-nm technology node and below.

"Luminescent sought out Cypress two years ago because of its advanced manufacturing capabilities and its culture of innovation," said David Fried, chief executive officer of Luminescent. "Already we have created test masks and printed wafers with this entirely new lithographic method. With its state-of-the-art semiconductor processes, Cypress's SVTC is a natural development partner for ILT."

The ILT platform first evaluates the desired on-wafer pattern and then mathematically determines the mask features needed to produce the intended silicon outcome. ILT enables superior on-silicon pattern fidelity and expanded process windows. It is the only reticle engineering technology developed specifically for the deep sub-wavelength era. The goal of the development program is to deploy an innovative lithography platform to address critical challenges unique to printing mask features well below the optical wavelength of light used to project layout patterns.

"Cypress is committed to embracing innovation, and part of that commitment is implementing process solutions that bridge the gap between design and lithography," said Bert Bruggeman, SVTC's managing director. "Our joint development program with Luminescent seeks to deploy a lithography capability that ensures the manufacturability of the industry's most complex ICs- predictably."

SVTC customers have access to Cypress's expertise, established fab infrastructure and sub-90-nm processing capabilities. SVTC enables third- party engineering groups to take products from proof-of-concept to manufacturing through a state-of-the-art toolset in a 16,000 square-foot clean room in Silicon Valley. Customers are also able to tap more than 20 years of process development expertise. SVTC offers best practices in fab process engineering, statistical process control, quality management, failure analysis and design for manufacturing methodologies as part of its development toolbox.
