New Holophane Acrylic Luminaires Offer Flexibility For Food Industry, Other Environments

NEWARK, OHIO (May 20, 2002) - New Altaire® luminaires from Holophane are designed for the food industry and any application where an acrylic lens is desired. The fixtures are offered with a choice of optics: a covered version and an uplight version.

The covered version features an aluminum reflector permanently joined to a high temperature acrylic refractor, which focuses the light downward, providing less than 3 percent uplight. This more focused illumination is appropriate for areas where workers are performing specific tasks.

The uplight or uncovered version is composed of an acrylic reflector and refractor that supply up to 15 percent uplight for higher vertical footcandles. Direct and indirect illumination combine to create a highly visual, uniformly lighted environment.

Excellent photometrics allow the Altaire luminaire to be installed at a variety of mounting heights. The luminaires may be used with 250- to 400-watt metal halide or high-pressure sodium lamps, standard or pulse start, and standard or low loss ballasts utilizing Holophane's 1.0 ballast factor.

Altaire luminaires are durable in corrosive environments and easy to maintain. The die cast aluminum ballast housing is pretreated and coated with an electrostatically deposited thermo-set polyester paint. Lamps may be easily removed through the lamp access door; a captive, hex head screw tightens to form a tight seal between the door and refractor.

The new luminaires are available with several mounting options for added flexibility. The fixtures are UL/CUL listed for damp locations. They are also NSF International Certified for non-food zones.
