Lulworth Estate Choose Perle Industrial Switches to Network Smart Parking Meters

Coin-feed parking meters are being forced into obsolescence. In addition to the pain of regular emptying cycles, they are prone to vandalism in a world where carrying cash is becoming archaic.

When Lulworth Estate decided to upgrade their outdated coin-car-parking meters, they turned to Voip Unlimited, an Internet Telephony Service Provider, to design a state-of-the-art contactless parking infrastructure.

Mark Pillow, Managing Director at Voip Unlimited, explains, "The distances between the parking meters and the central office exceeded 100m, so we installed a Fast Ethernet fiber network. We needed to install some rugged switches within the parking meters which would be exposed to outdoor conditions. I knew the Perle IDS Switches would be up for the job as I have used Perle products for years."

Perle IDS Industrial Ethernet Switches were installed inside new solar powered Smart Parking Meters and connected to the Estate's central office over Fiber. Customers use their credit card when they arrive at the parking lot and again when they leave. The credit card is charged according to the duration of their stay. With this set-up, the IT Network Administrator can monitor and manage the status of all parking meters remotely.
