WD-40 Company Offers Consumers the 'Last Straw'

Maker of 53-Year-Old Lubricant Announces 'Smart Straw,'
the WD-40 That Comes With the Straw Permanently Attached

SAN DIEGO - July 19, 2005 - WD-40 Company, maker of the world's most trusted lubricant, is introducing the WD-40® Smart Straw: the original WD-40 formula that comes with a permanently attached straw.

The WD-40 Smart Straw's contemporary, sleek design provides a great way for consumers to deliver product quickly and efficiently, and ensures they will never lose the straw again.

"This is exactly what consumers have wanted," said Tim Lesmeister, vice president of marketing for WD-40 Company. "Millions of people have a love affair with WD-40, but we've learned that more than 80 percent of WD-40 users have lost the straw at some point. We solved that problem by literally giving consumers the 'last straw' with the WD-40 Smart Straw."

A revolution in the lubricant category, the WD-40 Smart Straw sprays two ways: as a stream through the permanently attached straw for hard-to-reach jobs or when the straw is folded down, via the wide-area sprayer to cover a larger surface area.

The WD-40 Smart Straw is the second major packaging innovation since WD-40's inception in 1953, and it reflects the company's commitment to giving an increasingly diverse consumer base what they want. The first change in packaging was the 2004 introduction of the WD-40 Big Blast can, featuring a wide-area spray nozzle that allows users to cover more area in less time.

The 12-ounce WD-40 Smart Straw cans began shipping to retailers in April. The product comes in 12-pack cases, 40-count floor stands and 150-count half-stacks. The WD-40 Smart Straw will be available at major retailers. For more information on all WD-40 products, visit www.wd40.com.
