LSP Technologies, Inc. Announces Laser Peening Milestones

Dublin, Ohio – LSP Technologies celebrates 10 years of providing laser peening services and surpassing laser peening 40,000 parts for its customers.

"The first several years of the company's business were focused on creating the laser peening industry by designing and building our own laser peening systems as well as those for GE Aviation, and helping other labs and companies understand the laser shock peening process," said Jeff Dulaney, President and CEO of LSP Technologies. "In 2003 we started laser peening integrally bladed rotors in the F22 Raptor's Pratt Whitney F119 enginefor the U.S. Air force.  We've successfully expanded our clientele to include power generation, tubing manufacturers, automotive and transportation industries."

A major step forward in these 10 years for LSP Technologies in improving the efficiency and lowering the cost of the laser peening process was the introduction of its RapidCoater™ process. The RapidCoater™ process eliminates much of the manual handling associated with the opaque "tape" overlay application while maintaining the benefits of the opaque overlay and its protection of customer parts from potential "laser-peening-bare" issues and consequences.

LSP Technologies also grew to have three laser systems providing laser peening to satisfy customer throughput requirements of the more than 40,000 parts, and continues to improve its laser peening process.  During 2014,LSP Technologies will be installing the highest power laser peening equipment in the world at its facility in Dublin, Ohio.  This equipment will be used to increase production capacity at its own facility and to demonstrate its capabilities for customers seeking to purchase laser peening systems to incorporate at their own facility."The ability of companies to integrate laser peening equipment directly into their own facilities will greatly improve their manufacturing efficiencies and continue to reduce cost within our industry,"said Dulaney, "which will add significant value for their customers."

About Laser Peening:

Laser peeningsignificantly increases the service life of parts by improving their, damage tolerance, fatigue resistance, fatigue strength, and corrosion resistance.  Laser peening has saved OEMs and their customers tens of millions of dollars in maintenance and replacementpart costs. Laser peening mitigates the non-recoverable degradation and detrimental effects that parts experience during normal operation such as foreign object damage, high cycle fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, crack initiation and propagation.Industries benefiting fromlaser peening as a value-adding process include:power generation (gas turbines, steam turbines, diesel engines, wind power engines); transportation (aircraft, ship, train, enginecomponents); and manufacturing (tooling, presses, rolls, mills).  All industries with metal component fatigue could benefit from laser peening, medical (replacement joints, implants, and surgical utensils), oil and gas, pipeline, mining, rail and light rail, heavy equipment, automotive and, shipping maritime, and high performance racing.

About LSP Technologies:

LSP Technologiesis an innovative company specializing in the application of high power lasersto improve the endurance, performance, and safety of manufactured components across a broad array of industries, as well as providing laser contract research and development for industry and government. LSP Technologies was founded in 1995 and is the premier provider of laser peening equipment and services in the world. In 2012 LSP Technologies delivered to the Boeing Companythe first Laser Bond Inspection NDT laser system that interrogates an adhesive bond's strength.  For more information, please visit www.LSPTechnologies.com.
