LSI Media Processor Powers Next-Generation Ericsson Mobile Media Gateway
Award-winning LSI StarPro multicore media gateway solutions to power high-density 3G and 4G mobile infrastructure
MILPITAS, Calif., Oct. 5 -- ACCELERATING INNOVATION CONFERENCE -- LSI Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced that Ericsson has entered high-volume production of its next-generation mobile media gateway that incorporates LSI(TM) StarPro® multicore media processors. The mobile media gateway platform also includes a multicore communications processor from LSI.
The StarPro SP2612 media processor is a multicore, low-power system-on-chip device containing 12 digital signal processor cores and is designed to optimize mobile and enterprise media processing. The device enables the development of mobile media gateway systems capable of addressing the dramatic increase in consumer demand for online media content. The SP2612 allows Ericsson to build a cost-effective, high-density platform that supports advanced voice services such as Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and video processing.

The LSI StarPro media processor family is scalable up to 12 processor cores and offers a comprehensive software development environment and leading voice and video codecs such as H.263, H.264 and MPEG-4.
