LPP Combustion Technology Proves That Renewable Soy-Based Biodiesel Can Burn as Cleanly as Natural Gas


COLUMBIA, Md., May 23 -- LPP Combustion, LLC has demonstrated that the patented LPP Combustion System will allow soybean oil-based biodiesel to burn as cleanly as natural gas, with no net greenhouse gas emissions. During testing this month, LPP Combustion obtained emissions of nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and particulate matter comparable to natural gas level emissions using a commercial "state-of-the-art" dry low emission gas turbine combustor. Because biodiesel is a renewable fuel, gas turbines burning this fuel with the LPP System can provide "carbon neutral" electrical power by producing no net greenhouse gas emissions.

LPP Combustion has developed an enabling technology that provides the cleanest possible use of biofuels in a combustion device without the need for post-combustion pollution control equipment. On August 15, 2006, LPP Combustion received its primary U.S. Patent for technology that converts biodiesel and other liquid fuels into a synthetic natural gas, called LPP gas, which can be burned in natural gas combustion systems with no modifications to the combustion hardware. Additional US and worldwide patents are pending.

The soy-based biodiesel was provided by Renewable Energy Group Inc. (REG), an Iowa-based full-service company and leader in the biodiesel industry. REG markets biodiesel to customers for the on-highway, marine, military, home heating and agricultural industries.

Biodiesel created from soybeans grown in America is pumping millions of dollars into the economy and at the same time is reducing US dependence on foreign oil imports and eliminating greenhouse gas emissions. Biodiesel is an important part of the solution for achieving energy independence and a cleaner environment. LPP Combustion supports 25 x 25, an initiative to achieve 25% renewable energy by the year 2025.

Gas turbines utilizing LPP Combustion Technology with biofuels, such as biodiesel, can fuel low emissions renewable energy power plants with no net greenhouse gas emissions.
