Low-Power Photodetectors have accuracy-enhancing attenuator.

Press Release Summary:

Series 818 photodetectors are available with attenuator design, based on optic and clear aperture of 918D series detectors, that features 10 mm clear aperture to help user accurately align detector to input optical beam. Window also helps avoid detector overfilling, while clearly visible cross hair on housing assists coarse alignment of beam. With calibrated levels from pW to 2 W, detectors operate from 200-1,800 nm and feature matching patented, removable OD3 attenuators.

Newport Announces New Attenuator Design for 818 Series Photodetectors

  • New design features a 10mm clear aperture attenuator to improve alignment to the input optical beam and enhance product performance.

Irvine, CA - Newport Corporation, a worldwide leader in lasers and photonics solutions that Make, Manage and Measure Light®, announces a new attenuator design implemented for the popular Low-Power Photodetectors, Series 818. Based on the same optic and clear aperture of the high performance 918D series detectors, the new attenuator design features a clear aperture with the size reduced to 10mm to help the user align the detector to the input optical beam more accurately. The new window also helps avoid detector overfilling while the clearly visible cross hair on the new housing assists coarse alignment of the beam. The high quality, low-power photodetector and the detector housing design remain the same. Newport will ship the new 818 Series detectors starting in May 2011.

The low-power (calibrated levels from pW to 2W) 818 series detectors operate from 200 to 1800 nm and feature matching patented, removable OD3 attenuators for each photodetector. The detector and the attenuator serial numbers are carefully matched to ensure NIST traceability. For added user convenience, all detectors are available with a full-spectrum calibration report detailing detector responsivity in 10 nm increments, measured with and without the attenuator.

The low-power 818 series photodetectors are made with highest quality semiconductor materials, including silicon, UV-enhanced silicon, germanium, and indium gallium arsenide. Newport's in-house calibration facility performs excellent calibration or recalibration services, further improving the absolute accuracy of all detector products.
