Low Dropout Regulator offers high ripple rejection.

Press Release Summary:

With CMOS technology, Model FAN2534 150 mA LDO regulator offers fast turn-on (150 µsec) and low noise (50 µVrms). Trimmed short-circuit current limit (300 mA) protects thin PCB interconnects. For lower battery drain, FAN2534 has 180 V dropout voltage at 150 mA, and provides enable/shutdown control and thermal limiting for additional system safety. Unit comes in SOT-23, 5-lead package. Three output options include adjustable, 2.6 V with bypass, and 3.0 V with bypass.

Original Press Release:

New 150mA CMOS LDO with Low Quiescent Current Offers High Ripple Rejection, Fast Enable and Low Noise for High Performance and Cost Effectiveness in CDMA Cell Phone Designs

San Jose, Calif.-October 17, 2002- Fairchild Semiconductor International (NYSE: FCS) announces a 150mA LDO (low dropout) regulator with a combination of unique design features that optimize performance and cost in cellular phone applications, particularly CDMA. The FAN2534 regulator offers high ripple rejection over a wide frequency range, fast turn-on (150µS), low noise (50µVrms), and provides exceptional loop stability with a variety of output capacitor types. With its advanced CMOS technology, the FAN2534 is also ideally suited for wireless/RF applications and for powering such frequency-sensitive applications as PLLs (phase lock loops) and VCOs (voltage controlled oscillators).

"The FAN2534 is a natural choice for designers looking for the best combination of noise quality, ripple rejection and tight current limit in one, feature-packed CMOS regulator," said Tivadar Szabo, Manager of Ultra Portable Products in Fairchild's Power Management Group. "Noise and ripple-sensitive products, such as popular CDMA cell phones, can achieve significant performance benefits by using this device."

The FAN2534 offers fast turn-on without overshoot, as well as a highly accurate, trimmed short-circuit current limit (300mA) to protect thin PCB interconnects. For lower battery drain, the FAN2534 has 180mV-dropout voltage at 150mA, and it provides excellent near-dropout PSRR (power supply rejection ratio), enable/shutdown control and thermal limiting for additional system safety. The FAN2534 is pin-for-pin compatible with competitive parts and comes in a compact SOT-23, 5-lead package. Three different output options are available for this product: adjustable, 2.6V with bypass, and 3.0V with bypass.

This product adds to Fairchild's extensive selection of solutions for cellular phones ranging from switching regulators, white LEDs, LED drivers, amplifiers, battery management ICs, leadless surface mount Power MOSFETs, and TinyLogic(TM) .
