Low Drop-Out Regulator features programmable power-on reset delay.

Press Release Summary:

MIC5249 LDO is capable of providing up to 300 mA and is designed for power-up sequencing in microprocessors. It allows user to program delay on RESET pin that alerts processor when output of LDO has reached and settled on its intended value, allowing processor to come up gradually. MIC5249 is available in tiny MSOP-8 package and comes in fixed voltages: 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8, 2.85, 2.9, and 3.0 V. Operating temperature is -40 to +125°C.

Micrel's Tiny LDO Regulator Provides Programmable Power - On Reset Delay for Microprocessor Power-up Sequencing

- alerts the processor when the output voltage reaches its intended value

- fast transient response, low ground current, and uCap performance

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- (July 15, 2002) - A tiny low-dropout regulator (LDO) for power-up sequencing in microprocessors is now available from Micrel Semiconductor (NASDAQ: MCRL), an industry leader in power management and high-speed communication ICs. Capable of providing up to 300mA, the new MIC5249 is equipped with a user programmable power-on reset delay feature.

The MIC5249's programmable power-on reset makes it ideally suited for power-up sequencing in microprocessors. It allows the user to program a delay on the RESET pin that alerts the processor when the output of the LDO has reached and settled on its intended value, allowing the processor to come up gradually. The LDO is also capable of alerting the processor when a fault condition occurs and the output is out of regulation.

"Available in the tiny MSOP-8 package, the MIC5249 comes in a range of fixed output voltages. The MIC5249's fast settling time after a load change, superb PSRR, and ultra low standby current makes it an ideal solution for powering the microprocessor in battery applications," said John McGinty, LDO product marketing engineer.

The MIC5249 is a uCap regulator stable with smaller ceramic output capacitors, eliminating the need for larger, less reliable tantalum capacitors.

When purchased in a quantity of 1,000, price for the MIC5249 starts at $0.90. Samples are available, and production quantities are stock to 8 weeks ARO.
