Low-Cost Manual SMD Rework System Replicates Ideal Processing Environments

Jun 1 2007

Manncorp has introduced a manually operated rework system capable of achieving the exact thermal and air flow conditions necessary for lead-free or regular processing of fine-pitch devices. The Martin Hot Jet 05 is used for desoldering, flux application, placement and soldering of chips, QFPs and BGA/CSPs. Although priced at under $5,000, the system's modules are fully compatible with all other equipment in the Martin line. Entry-level users can thus upgrade to the German manufacturer's automated $25,000+ rework systems without jeopardizing their initial investment.

Temperatures are finitely adjustable from 150 to 400° with a repeatability of ±1%, while airflow can be regulated from 1 to 35 l/min. These patented and precise controls permit small volumes of lead-free rework tasks to be completed without burn damage to boards, or blow-off of desoldered chips from air gusts. Up to 100 soldering programs can be stored. The Hot Jet 05 includes a control unit with soldering pen, a hot air pen with stand, 2 soldering nozzles and flux paste with pusher. An optional IR underheater provides uniform below-the-board heating during the soldering process. "Insta-Quote(TM)" online pricing is available at manncorp.com or call 800.PIK.MANN (745.6266).
