Cadre Technologies Announces Cadence Mobile Logistics To Integrate Speech, Bar-Code Scanning, Browser Interface And Text On Microsoft Mobile 2003 Platform

Cleveland, OH, March 30, 2004 - Cadre Technologies, Inc., a leading fulfillment and logistics software innovator, today announced Cadence Mobile Logistics, a major new extension to its Cadence Fulfillment System. Cadence Mobile Logistics will incorporate speech-directed operations with bar code scanning and browser information on off-the-shelf wireless Pocket PC clients via a standard 802.11b network.

Cadence Mobile Logistics (CML) will enable mobile warehouse workers to execute all warehouse operations within the Cadence Warehouse Management System including receiving, putaway, picking, replenishment, kitting and cycle counting on a single mobile computer, utilizing multiple modes of communication. Cadre will begin deployment of the CML technology in the 3rd Quarter of 2004. The CML mobile technology will be the standard, fully integrated mobile technology for the Cadence Fulfillment system

"Cadence Mobile Logistics uses a combination of input and output technologies to help mobile workers perform their work more efficiently," explained Iván Pérez-Méndez, Cadre's Vice President of Engineering. "In many operations, communication with Cadence is performed verbally for a truly hands and eyes-free experience. For some activities, it may be better to obtain information from Cadence visually and to enter information via the bar-code scanner, keyboard or touch screen. CML is not a 'bolted-on' component; it is integrated into the core Cadence Fulfillment system."

The CML software that runs on the mobile computer features the CML Browser, which provides the mobile worker with an easy to understand visual interface to Cadence. The CML Controller software manages the communication with the mobile computers via a standard 802.11 wireless network. The controller also manages and dispatches the work to be performed depending upon the individual worker's skills or assignment. The CML Controller finds work items for the worker to complete and sends information to the mobile computer about the location and nature of work, such as picking quantities. This information is both displayed on the screen by the browser and spoken to the worker. As the worker performs each of the activities and confirms it to Cadence, then the software directs the worker to the next activity.

When communicating verbally with Cadence, the worker's voice is interpreted by and converted to instructions and data for Cadence utilizing a powerful speech recognition engine and a text-to-speech engine. The computer responds using computer-generated voice produced by the TTS engine.

The multiple modes of communication driving multiple operations provide many benefits including increased efficiency, accuracy and safety. With the powerful mobile computer available at all times in a holster, the technology enhances ergonomics and speeds up training. The product is flexible and may be tailored to specific customer needs without software changes.
