LogicaCMG Selects Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Market-Leading Mobile Internet Platform

BARCELONA, 3GSM World Congress and RALEIGH, North Carolina, February 15/ --

LogicaCMG (LSE: LOG; Euronext: LOG) and Red Hat (NASDAQ: RHAT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that standardising on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system has secured price/performance leadership for LogicaCMG's mobile internet solutions portfolio based on its Next Generation Platform. By building solutions on the most cost-efficient infrastructure components, LogicaCMG enables operators to dramatically reduce their initial investments while tripling traffic handling capacity.

The Red Hat platform also enables reduced infrastructure complexity and enhances interoperability across the network to reduce operational expenditure (OPEX) and allow operators to achieve ongoing cost efficiency from their LogicaCMG Next Generation Messaging solution.

To support and further encourage recent growth in demand for mobile internet and advanced data services, mobile network operators need highly scalable, reliable and cost-efficient infrastructure solutions that can manage high volumes of mobile data traffic. Red Hat's technology has further enabled LogicaCMG to build price competitive messaging solutions that manage both mobile internet and multimedia messaging traffic and integrate with back-end billing, provisioning and Quality of Service (QoS) systems.

Otto Vullers, product manager for LogicaCMG's Next Generation Platform, said: "The telecommunications industry has seen the uptake of open source in large enterprises and begun to realise the cost benefits and the stability that it can offer. Red Hat is a leading provider of this technology, with proven products, great security and enabling integration across the most cost-efficient infrastructure components.

LogicaCMG's decision to standardise on Red Hat Enterprise Linux for our Next Generation Platform enables us to offer highly competitive, cost-efficient solutions to our customers worldwide."

Werner Knoblich, general manager EMEA at Red Hat, said: "The telecommunications industry continues to embrace commercial off-the-shelf hardware and Red Hat Enterprise Linux as the building blocks for mission critical applications. LogicaCMG's use of Red Hat Enterprise Linux as the standard operating system for their Next Generation Platform clearly demonstrates the confidence and trust that operators and equipment providers have in Red Hat's products and services."

Red Hat Enterprise Linux continues to gain momentum as the preferred operating system for mission-critical telecommunications applications. Red Hat software has been deployed by leading wireless, wire-line, cable and online providers worldwide. The company works closely with operators and equipment providers to ensure that the Red Hat family of products incorporates the high-priority features required by the telecommunications industry. Red Hat maintains a single Linux distribution that supports both enterprise and telecommunications companies and boasts an ecosystem of more than 1800 software and 1100 hardware partners.

In a strategic move to consolidate all elements of the Next Generation Messaging portfolio on a consistent platform, LogicaCMG has already standardised its High Speed Proxy, Multimedia Messaging Service Centre (MMSC), Messaging Application Server (MAS) for the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Instant Messaging and Presence Server (IMPS) on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Furthermore, the platform will also provide specific features for improving manageability and providing the flexibility to grow and adapt the infrastructure in response to new markets and opportunities.
