Logic Level Translators feature 14-pin, DQFN packaging.

Press Release Summary:

Models FXL4T245BQX and FXL5T244BQX are 4-bit bi-directional and 5-bit uni-directional translators, respectively. CMOS-based units enable interconnection between low voltage microprocessor and higher voltage peripheral ICs. Both provide level translation between 2.5-3.3 V I/Os of 3-, 4-, and 5-bit memory modules. Suited for cell phones, notebooks and other battery-powered portable devices, translators withstand lead-free PCB attachment processes up to 250°C.

Fairchild Announces 4-Bit and 5-Bit Logic Level Translators in DQFN Packaging for Cell Phones, Notebooks, Portables

FXL series enables I/O interconnection between low-voltage microprocessors and higher-voltage peripheral ICs

South Portland, Maine-August 2, 2004-Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) announces the FXL4T245BQX (4-bit bi-directional) and FXL5T244BQX (5-bit uni-directional) low-voltage logic-level translators in DQFN packaging. Designed for cell phones, notebooks and other battery-powered portable devices, CMOS-based FXL series translators enable interconnection between a lower voltage microprocessor and higher voltage ASIC functions. The FXL4T245BQX and FXL5T244BQX provide space-efficient level translation between the 2.5-3.3 V I/Os of 3-, 4-, and 5-bit memory modules such as in Memory Stick. or Secure Digital (SD)- card applications, and the frequently lower voltage I/Os of the processor chip set.

"Fairchild's FXL series devices give designers the flexibility to match I/Os of existing microprocessors to higher voltage functions such as panel display and peripherals," says Ken Murphy, Fairchild marketing manager for logic products. "A significant attribute is the device's DQFN packaging that supports the miniaturization trend in portables."

Both translators feature configurable voltage supplies (VCCA and VCCB) for the inputs and outputs allowing translation in either direction, between typical logic levels of 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V and 3.3V. Power consumption is kept low by a quiescent current (ICC) specification of 20 uA max.

Both devices are offered in the new 14-terminal DQFN leadless package that measures 2.5 x 3.0 x 0.8 mm (h) and requires just 30% of the board area of TSSOP. Furthermore, the DQFN package's MSL-1 (moisture sensitivity level) rating eliminates the need for costly dry bag storage prior to use on the production line. Lead-free (Pb-free) FXL4T245BQX and FXL5T244BQX devices can withstand end user lead-free PC board attachment processes up to 250C. All models in the series meet or exceed the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B and are compliant with European Union requirements that will take effect in 2005.

Other product features of the FXL series include:
o Low noise buffered interface with up to 24mA drive;
o Non-preferential power-up sequencing: either VCC may be powered-up first;
o Outputs switch to 3-state if either VCC is at GND; Device remains in 3-state until both VCCs reach an active level;
o Power-off overvoltage (IOFF) protection of I/Os and control pins; and
o Minimum 4 kV HBM (Human Body Model) ESD protection; 8 kV HBM I/O-to-ground protection.

Dual-voltage translators expand Fairchild's portfolio of products for portable applications. These products include analog switches, Ultra Low Power (ULP) TinyLogic., DQFN-packaged low voltage logic, low voltage audio amplifiers, LED drivers and LEDs for backlighting, supervisory products such as temperature sensors and reset generator circuits, and a variety of DC/DC conversion products including LDOs and MOSFETs.
